In the early days of the Internet, the term amitkoth became nearly synonymous with the terms “spammer” and “evildoer”
Amitkoth came to be regarded by many to mean ”violator of the published guidelines of the search engines and directories” and was used almost as a curse. Legend has it that an editor using the name amitkoth was banned by the open directory project for flagrant spamming and for deleting legitimate listings of websites that editor thought were competitive sites. That episode may be the most flagrant violation of ODP guidelines to ever come to light.
